The Summer Institute is an annual collaboration between the School of Early Childhood at George Brown College and the Atkinson Centre for Society and Child Development at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education/University of Toronto. The Institute strives to offer timely information to inform early childhood research, policy, and practice.

This year, the 20th Summer Institute examines how children’s early learning environments are improved by addressing the working conditions of educators. Researchers and practitioners from multiple disciplines explore strategies including public policy development, workplace accords, sector standards and unionization, as routes to stabilizing and growing the workforce.

Hear from those putting innovative approaches into action and growing the ranks of people enjoying a satisfying career as an early childhood educator.

This symposium highlighted how early learning and child care are delivered within schools can increase access, reduce uneven quality, improve the working conditions and professionalism of educators, allow for early detection and intervention, and provide a continuum of learning to benefit young children.

Join experts in this important forum discussing how to meet the equity goals in the CWELCC plan along with great examples from across Canada of how to scale-up of proven programs and innovations.

The 2023 virtual provincial conference theme is We Raise Each Other Up: ECEs Building Leadership and Learning Communities of Joy, Curiosity and Hope. Presenters include Bernice Cipparrone-McLeod, Professor, School of Early Childhood, George Brown College, and Jane Bertrand, Program Director, Margaret and Wallace McCain Family Foundation.
