Biography

Jennifer is a PhD candidate in the Language & Literacies Education (LLE) program.

Thesis: Engineering Positive Discourses of Communication Pedagogies

Research interests

Jennifer’s research interests include the intersections of power, identity and language in the academy, particularly with regards to Indigenous and settler histories in Canada, and incorporating Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) and genre research into pedagogical practice.

Her dissertation research investigates university instructors’ familiarity with and attention to language proficiency descriptors at admissions and required graduate attributes, using Positive Discourse Analysis (Martin, 2004), an extension of Critical Discourse Analysis that highlights how good things are done well.
