Eco-Art: Environmental Rights of the Child

This series of clay tiles were made in partnership with the grade six students at С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ's Laboratory School at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study.  Created as part of the 'Take the Stairs' Campaign, they now hang proudly in С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ's main stairwell, forming the initial part of the walking art gallery that encourages the С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ community to take the stairs rather than elevators (saving energy and improving health). 

This installation is a record of the inquiry-based, knowledge building process that the grade 6 students went through in their study of the UN's Rights of Children.  These tiles capture the students' ideas about what children's Environmental Rights should be:  the right to clean air and water; the right to clean play spaces; the right to sanitation; the right to shelter; the right to a clean environment; and the right to healthy food.
