С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ Teaching Stream Promotions & Continuing Status 2022

I am very pleased to share the news that five exemplary members of our community have been approved for teaching stream promotions and/or continuing status.
 
Professor Todd Cunningham of the Department of Applied Psychology and Human Development and Professor Mary Reid of the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning have been granted continuing status and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, effective July 1, 2022.
 
Professor Todd Cunningham is a school and clinical psychologist whose research focuses on academic interventions for student-age children who have learning difficulties, through the identification of assistive technology to address academic skill deficits, increasing the effectiveness of assistive technology, and developing learning profiles to assist in academic interventions. As a supervising psychologist in the С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ Psychology Clinic, Todd runs a telepsychology program in which practicum students in the School and Clinical Child Psychology program use video conferencing to provide consultation services to teachers in remote Northern Ontario schools.
 
Professor Mary Reid has over 25 years of teaching experience, including 14 years at С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ, and has applied her wealth of knowledge and expertise to a number of leadership roles in the Master of Teaching program. She is the 2022 recipient of С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ’s award for Excellence in Educational Leadership. Prior to her career at С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ, Mary was a classroom teacher, instructional leader, education officer at the Education Quality Accountability Office (EQAO), vice-principal and principal. In addition, her field experiences involve both urban and rural school settings. She has published research in the areas of math content knowledge of elementary pre-service teachers, math anxiety in the classroom, the gender gap in STEM, and building efficacy for math teaching.
 
Professors Katharine Janzen, Caroline Manion, and Jennifer Sumner, part-time faculty members in the Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education, have been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor, Teaching Stream, effective July 1, 2022.
 
Professor Katharine Janzen has taught and worked in higher education in Ontario for more than 45 years. At Seneca College she held positions as Professor, Coordinator, and Clinical Chair of the Nursing Program, Director of Professional Development, and Associate Vice President, Research & Innovation. After joining С»ÆÊéÊÓƵ in 2007 she developed the MEd in Higher Education Leadership cohort option, and has been responsible for the recruitment, orientation, and coordination of 10 cohorts. Katharine’s main areas of expertise are curriculum theory, design and development, teaching/learning strategies, organization development, education research, and leadership and change in education. 

Professor Caroline Manion’s research interests include equity and social justice, gender and education, civil society, social movements, public policy, school improvement, teacher development, the politics of education, and educational multilateralism and governance. Her research has been supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the International Development Research Centre of Canada, and the Canadian International Development Agency. Carly has also provided educational program development and evaluation services for the Aga Khan Foundation, UNESCO, UNICEF, the British Council, the United Nations Girls' Education Initiative, the Hewlett Foundation, and the Open Society Foundation.
 
Professor Jennifer Sumner’s research interests include adult and lifelong learning, critical pedagogy and knowledge production, food and sustainable food systems, globalization, rural communities and rural women, civil commons and the social economy, and co-operatives. She has been a prolific researcher and writer, with 5 books, 38 refereed journal articles, 31 book chapters, and 3 guest-edited journal editions. Jennifer recently received the 2021 Award for Excellence in Food Studies Research from the Canadian Association for Food Studies. Since 2020, she has served as Program Coordinator of the Adult Education and Community Development Program.
