Technology
The Emotions & Learning Optimization (ELO) Lab uses integrated multi-channel technology to understand emotional responses to learning. The technology we use was designed to offer real-time analysis of learners’ emotional and psychophysiological states.
iMotions
iMotions Affectivia uses the AFFDEX engine to offer a facial emotion coding system that measures 7 Basic Emotions: Joy, Anger, Surprise, Fear, Contempt, Sadness and Disgust.
These emotions are coded based on the Facial Action Coding System (FACS; Ekman & Friesen, 1978), which codes movement in activating facial muscles to derive a score for facial expressions.

Electrodermal Activity (EDA)

Electroencephalography (EEG)
Electroencephalography (EEG) monitors electrical activity in the brain, which are indicators of physiological and psychological states.
ELO uses BioPac MP160 with AcqKnowledge 5.0 to monitor resonant brain waves that correspond to other psychophysiological responses such as EDA and iMotions.
