Overview of Financial Assistance

ICS Lab School is committed to needs-based financial support that will both enable increased diversity and retain current laboratory school families. Approximately $100,000 of financial support is awarded each year. There are five forms of tuition support options available through the Diana Rankin/ Muncaster Family Tuition Support Fund.

The Tuition Support Committee is working to actively expand economic diversity at JICS Lab School. This committee is made up of the Principal, Vice-Principal, two current parents, three alumni parents, and one external member (Vice-Principal at UTS).

Families New to JICS Laboratory School

Support for economic diversity provides financial assistance for students who could not otherwise consider enrolling at the Dr. Eric Jackman Institute of Child Study (JICS) Laboratory School. Application and assessment of financial need is made through an arms-length, confidential application to . 

At this time, JICS Laboratory School is able to accept tuition support applications for Grades 4, 5, or 6. 

Current JICS Laboratory School Families

Expected Range: $1,000 鈥 $10,000 per student
Application Deadline: November 10

This tuition support is available for current students entering Grades 3 鈥 6 who could not otherwise consider staying at the JICS Laboratory School. The expected range of support is $1,000 鈥 $10,000 per student with the possibility of multi-year renewal.

Application and assessment of financial need is made through an arms-length, confidential application to . Applications are due by November 10.

Should you have any questions regarding the financial information required in the application please contact Apple Financial at 416-730-9900. Please note that if you applied to Apple Financial last year and received tuition support from the school, you will need to apply again every year to renew your request and your information.

Through donations and school support, the fund makes needs-based tuition support of children of First Nations and Indigenous heritage available. Families already receiving this support, may apply again each year through .

Expected Range: $1,000 鈥 $2,500 per student
Application Deadline: April 25

This fund provides one-time support for current families whose changed financial circumstances may jeopardize, in the short term, their ability to keep their children enrolled at the JICS Laboratory School.  

Application for this type of support should be submitted to the JICS Laboratory School Principal, Richard Messina. Please write a letter of request with an explanation of the change in financial circumstances.

These letters are due on April 25 for consideration.

Notification will be made by letter in mid-May.  As well, some funds are available throughout the year for extenuating situations.

Several additional types of financial support have been introduced to provide needs-based financial assistance for school trips and extra expenses, educational assessments, tutoring, and unforeseen costs. Application for this type of support should be submitted through the JICS Laboratory School Principal, Richard Messina.

Applying for Financial/Tuition Support (Apple Financial)

Application and assessment of financial need is made through an arms-length, confidential application to , and decisions are made by a sub-committee at the JICS Laboratory School (which does not include any current parents). Applications to  are online.


Overview of Application Process
  1. Families create a parent account registration.
  2. After your e-mail address is verified, emailed instructions will be sent for account setup.
  3. Applicant completes the online application. Families who are re-applying must submit all relevant information again.
  4. At the end of the process, a request will appear for the uploading of tax information (i.e. T4鈥檚, current year鈥檚 pay statements, etc.).
  5. Once the information is uploaded, payment for the application will be requested.

 

Timeline & Important Notes
  • Applications are due to by November 10.
  • Notification of financial assistance decisions will be made by letter from the JICS Laboratory School by March.
