This online session is part of the the CTL Professional Development Series. Facilitated by CTL Professor Tara Goldstein, Acting Associate Chair, Student Experience, this session will focus on:

  • Writing a strong cover letter
  • Creating a strong job talk

In this second part of our professional development series for PhD students, we dive into two critical components of the academic job application process: writing a persuasive cover letter and preparing a memorable job talk. This workshop will provide you with the tools and strategies to effectively communicate your fit for an academic position and showcase your research in a compelling way.

You will learn how to write a cover letter that not only highlights your qualifications but also demonstrates your enthusiasm for the role, your knowledge of the institution, and your alignment with its academic culture. Additionally, the workshop will guide you through the essential elements of a successful job talk, including how to present your research clearly and engagingly, manage your time effectively, and respond to questions with confidence.

Guest Speakers: Qui Alexander and Rishi Krishnamoorthy
