This online session is part of the the CTL Professional Development Series. Facilitated by CTL Professor Tara Goldstein, Acting Associate Chair, Student Experience, this session will focus on:

  • Creating a strong impression in a job interview

The academic job interview is your opportunity to showcase not only your research and teaching expertise but also your fit within a department and institution. In this third part of our professional development series for PhD students, we focus on how to navigate and excel in academic job interviews. This workshop will equip you with the skills and strategies to make a lasting impression, respond to challenging questions with confidence, and engage effectively with your interviewers.

You will learn how to prepare for different types of interviews, from one-on-one meetings with hiring committees to campus visits and teaching demonstrations. Practical tips will cover everything from answering common interview questions to handling the pressure of live presentations and discussions. Additionally, the session will provide insights into how to convey your enthusiasm for the position, department, and institution in a way that reflects your academic values and goals.

Guest Speakers: Arlo Kempf and Jack Miller
